Whether you're returning home for the Fourth of July, planning a summer getaway with friends and family, or discovering Evansville for the very first time, there's no better place to celebrate America's 250th anniversary than right here along the Ohio River. Throughout July, we invite you to experience the people, places, and stories that have shaped both our nation and our community. From patriotic celebrations and historic landmarks to local museums, restaurants, and family-friendly attractions, Evansville offers countless ways to celebrate America 250 all month long.

July 4th Weekend

The celebration officially kicks off over Independence Day weekend with Fireworks on the Ohio Presented by Bally's Evansville, one of our community's most beloved Fourth of July traditions. Hosted by our partners at Downtown Evansville, this signature event transforms the riverfront into a celebration of patriotism, community, and summertime fun with live entertainment, family activities, local food vendors, and a spectacular fireworks display over the Ohio River. At Explore Evansville, we're proud to sponsor this annual celebration and help welcome thousands of visitors and residents downtown to experience everything our destination has to offer. Before the fireworks light up the night sky, be sure to visit the Evansville Museum of Arts, History & Science for its Pieces of the Past: America at 250 Yearsexhibition and Fourth of July celebration. Through interactive exhibits and special programming, the museum offers a meaningful look at our nation's 250-year journey while providing one of the best places to spend the holiday.

Exploring Evansville’s Role in WWII and American History

While Independence Day is the centerpiece of the celebration, America's story can be experienced throughout July in destinations across Evansville. One of the city's greatest contributions to our nation's history can be found aboard the USS LST-325. Built right here in Evansville during World War II, this historic landing ship remains as the last fully operational vessels of its kind in the world and offers visitors a firsthand look at the determination that helped shape American history. Just a short drive away, the Evansville Wartime Museum expands on that story with aircraft, military vehicles, and exhibits highlighting the community's extraordinary role in wartime manufacturing. Together, these attractions preserve an important chapter of Evansville's legacy while honoring those who helped build our nation's future.

History continues throughout the city in places that have become part of Evansville's identity. Spend an evening at historic Bosse Field, one of the oldest professional baseball stadiums still in operation in the United States and home to the Evansville Otters. Explore the beautifully preserved Reitz Home Museum, admire the architecture of the historic Victory Theatre, or visit the iconic Willard Library. As you make your way through Downtown Evansville, you'll discover locally owned shops, restaurants, public art, and riverfront views that showcase the welcoming spirit of our community. Every stop offers another opportunity to support local businesses while experiencing the character that makes Evansville unique.

We’ve helped make it easy for you and your family, friends, or group to experience some of these historic attractions. Using our Attraction Pass, you can visit the LST 325, Evansville Wartime Museum and four others, for only one price!
